2014 celebrated 150 years since Sinclair and Margaret Plowman, along with their children, arrived in NSW from Scotland. They arrived in Sydney aboard the Sir Robert Sale in 1864 with James (aged 22), Mary (aged 19), George (aged 15), Jessie (aged 13) and Roderick (aged 10). The eldest son, Daniel was sent to set up the arrival, having sailed in the Vocalist 1857 at the age of 18. Their eldest child, Colina (sometimes called Catherine) arrived with her husband, John Darling, and five children on the Samuel Plimsoll in 1875. The family rapidly established themselves in the Orange district in New South Wales with Sinclair continuing his interests as a grocer by setting up a grocery and general store in Summer St and his children following a range of business pursuits also based on their experience and interests in Scotland and opportunities presented in Australia. The information presented in this website has been drawn from published material, the early interests of Allan Sutherland Plowman (1911–1985) and John Sinclair Plowman (1922–2012) in tracing the Scottish roots of the family, historical information held by family members and photos, certificates and newspaper articles available from sources such as TROVE and other archives.Contact Us
